We posted photos for June and new garden pics. Things are coming along nicely, especially Spud’s sunflowers, which have grown five feet this month.
This happens every year. I look at the plants and they are so small, come June, I think they won’t grow this year. Then in July and August, there is this amazing transformation where they sprout five feet of growth and flower like mad.
Gardening is such a great lesson in patience.
I’m not a big fan of pesticides, but we’ve had a real problem this year with grasshoppers and leaf eating pests. Not only do they eat the plants (destroyed two of our zucchinis), but they spread diseases to the plants too.
I’ve had decent luck with the organic garlic and citric acid sprays, which aren’t harmful to peeps or water supplies. Cleaning out all the debris and junk seems to really help as well. I spread granule pesticide once a month in the yard, but not the garden, and that helps considerably with cutting down the pest population.
